Supervisor conflict

Sorry if this sounds pathetic but I just feel a bit upset about something that happened at work yesterday and feel it has knocked my confidence a bit.

I was on lunch and my supervisor came and asked if once I had finished lunch could I get on with a certain job, I explained that I had another job to finish and asked if anyone else was free to do the job as I was worried about not finishing the job I had to do. She said there wasn't so I said ok.

I came back from lunch ready to start the job but went to help a customer, then had to help a few more. I was 10 minutes max. I then went to start the job she had asked me to do. In the time I had been serving the customers she had gone to report me to the manager for not following her instructions.

Was I been unreasonable?

It doesn’t sound unreasonable to me, it sounds like you are understaffed. You did as you were asked after you had helped customers. Did the manager speak to you afterwards? How do you know this happened?

It's really hard to comment out of context. What was the job? And who would have dealt with the customers if you hadn't? On the bare bones of it, you agreed to do something as soon as you had finished your lunch and didn't (how long the delay was isn't really relevant). I might have expected her to speak to you about it rather than the manager, but on technical grounds she is correct. That doesn't mean you were wrong to manange it that way. Without knowing the whole story it's hard to tell. So I can only comment on those bare bones.

@PhilippaGeorgiou My other colleague would have dealt with the customers eventually but she had a queue and we were closing for 45 minutes so the queue needed clearing. Then once we had closed i cleared the area I needed to work at and started the job I was asked to do.

@Rosybud88 yeah the manager spoke to me and told me that the supervisor was annoyed that I didn't listen to her.

that's annoying.
So you need to clarify with supervisor, if similar happens in future, if you are to do what she told you to do and ignore the customers, or do the customers and then the job. Bearing in mind having to clear customers within a certain time, and not having too many staff.

Then just do that.
