Hi everyone

Just checking if there are any nurses here who have worked as PIP assessors? Been seeing job ads for it and thinking of how to apply. Would really appreciate the honest opinion of anyone who knows about it. Thanks in advance.

Do you still have a heart? If so don’t do it , the job is to try catch out disabled people so they don’t get extra money.

I know a couple of nurses that have made the swap mainly for more convenient working hours and location ( they have school age children). They both report that it's quite repetitive but a much more convenient role that their hospital based jobs.

Thanks for both replies :)

@zebrazoop oh dear, I didn't know the role would involve that 😳

@WorkCleanRepeat that is also my reason for looking into it as I have a young child...the convenient working hours

@zebrazoop Or some would say the role is to differentiate between people who genuinely need PiP and people who don’t. Obviously somebody has to do that role or else everyone would be trying it on. We do need PiP assessors and it’s a perfectly respectable job to do.

I know someone who does this and she finds it ok. It’s good money/ hours. She has been doing it for about a year though and is looking for a new job (there aren’t any!!) and apparently that’s the same as a lot of colleagues

The person who did my PIP assessment was so kind and understanding. The call only lasted about 10 minutes too so it wasn’t a traumatic experience at all for me.

I have known a couple of people who did it but they didn't last long. They both entered into it thinking they could do good for people, one was nearly driven to a breakdown with the demands of it. I did consider it myself at one time but honestly didn't think I could cope. It's a big responsibility involving potentially substantial amounts of public money. I help people to complete PIP forms now and support them through the assessment process.
