Work and extra commitments..

I work pt in an admin role which I love. It’s really interesting and I hope to be there forever. However I’ve just come out of our team meeting and feel we’re expected to get involved with other commitments. It’s been suggested we need to look at our passions and get involved, ie. Charity run, and other clubs the company are involved in. I can’t say as it’s outing. In my spare time I enjoy my own time, and came out feeling nervous. I’ve got my one to one meeting on Friday and am worried in case I’m asked about it again.
How would you respond? Has anyone else gone through this?

I think a lot of charities expect their staff to get in the spirit of fundraising. Are you nervous because you can't think of anything to do or because you don't want to? I wouldn't want to personally. But that's just me. You just have to paint on a smile and pretend you are enthusiastic I would think.

I would not want to be guilt-tripped into activities outside my work hours.

Smile but stand firm and say that you are already involved with other activities of your choice when you are not working and therefore don't have any spare time to allocate to this. And repeat.

I could be wrong but I didn’t read it as though OP worked for a charity. I read it as she works for a company that is organising “extra curricular” events like charity runs that it expects staff to get involved with,

Yes, that’s quite right. It’s not a charity but they are looking for volunteers and I fear I’m not the right person! A run was mentioned and if you saw me, you’d know why, lol.

Im trying to avoid being guilt tripped but there’s a few things within the company I may have to try and avoid also!!
