Changing careers

Hi, I am a registered Nurse with 21yrs completed NHS service, I currently have a non clinical office only contract. But I work from home 3 days a week and go into the office/base 1 day a week. I have been in this role for almost 4yrs. I have recently been asked to begin 'reskilling' for clinical face to face practice. Now, I have actually deliberately gotten into a non clinical role, due to various physical health and mental health issues. My current health as a result, is the best it has been in 10-15yrs, my sick days now average maybe one day a year, whereas when I was clinical they were v high. Working non clinical has meant I didn't have to change career or take a pay cut. Having worked in the NHS for most of my adult life, I understand how they like to shuffle people and redefine job roles as part of frequent restructuring in the name of money. I have decided to see if redundancy is on the cards for my role and to openly state out loud yes pls. Aiming to drag out the process for a few months. I have accepted that i need to look at leaving Nursing for health reasons. I feel i have hung on in there for several yrs, whilst approx 90% of my nursing tutor group has now left Nursing for alternative careers due to stess/ burn out/ lifestyle changes etc. I have decided to retrain for admin roles in the evenings and on the side. Does anyone have any recommendations for courses / professional qualifications i should be looking at? I'm thinking basic to begin with. I know how much I need to earn minimum as a single parent household with a yr 8 secondary school child and a mortgage. Happy to listen, I'm not longer upset or losing sleep over the prospect of changing profession. Just looking for advice on training, I would like to aim for a job working in a school, or GP practice.
Also as a side note, I know I would need to notified in writing with at least 12weeks notice if they intend to change my role/ job description. Im also a realist about how things work and I have no fight left

Hi Op. Also a nurse so I sympathise! Would you not consider a none clinical job outside of the NHS though? Something like clinical governance, health assessments etc?

Thankyou, not really. I'm ready to leave the health care sector completely. There are three potential outcomes of my scernario

  1. I get my redundancy package - pay down my mortgage and reduce my monthly outgoings, meaning I can earn less to survive, whilst I also retrain in the evenings for a change of career
  2. No redundancy and more pressure to find a role earning x amount, in a shorter period of time to avoid the clinical side completely
  3. I suck up and take on a dual clinical/ non clinical role whilst I spend the next year (or possibly two yrs)retraining for another career.

One of my friends is now a holistic practitioner and v happy 😊 since leaving the NHS. She says she feels like she's come out of the army/ and institution

No that’s understandable I just thought I’d mention as there is some good earning potential out there. I’ve thought about massage therapy myself to be honest, funny you say that though as I am in the military & find it better than the NHS 😅
