Going part time

I've been an NHS professional for 45 years and have come to the realisation that I just can't carry on working full time any more. Im disabled and on PIP, I have a blue badge. Im so wiped out when I get home I can't move, I just go to bed shattered.
Im 63 so I've got 4 years left before retirement. I can't afford to retire early because I got divorced a few years ago and it reduced my circumstances although I do have my own home. He didn't go for half my pension and we have a consent order so he can't come back for it.
Will working 4 days a week affect my nhs pension or state pension? Do I need to think about paying into either of these pensions? I'd appreciate any advice.

I cant advise re your pensions but will your workload reduce or will you just do 5 days work in 4. That is something to consider.

Ill drop by a whole day to 4 days. 5 days workload into 4 would kill me.

If you've been in the NHS for 45 years have you been paying into a pension scheme all that time? If so and it was the '95 scheme you should have been taking that pension from aged 60. That would allow you to reduce your hours.
However I know some jobs in the NHS didn't encourage people joining the pension scheme so ignore if not relevant. I feel for you still having to keep going it's hard.

I agree with @Musicaltheatremum if you’ve been working in the NHS for that long and you’ve been in the pension scheme then you will be able to take your pension in the 1995 scheme now (from age 60 or some jobs from 55).
Many people do this to allow them to work part time until 67, and you’ll still carry on paying into the new pension scheme.
I’d advise you get in touch with the pension service

Check your pension. If you have that length of service you should be able tp partially retire, take your 1995 pension and reduce your hours. Then you have the benefit of receiving pension whilst working. 2015 is Career average so a few years at 0.8 shouldn't make too much difference (assuming due to the McCloud taper your 1995 takes service up to March 22)

Good idea Ill get in touch with the pension scheme. I think Ill be physically OK with 4 days because it means Ill never have to work more than 2 days before having a day off. Im dropping Wednesday. I've been paying into my nhs pension for about 20 years.

You will have very little in the 2015 scheme as you are a year older than me and I retired in August 23 aged 60 and 1 month. And only had from April 22 to my retiral date in the '15 scheme. I'm still waiting for the McCloud review!!

I took the '15 pension early as it didn't make a huge difference financially but I should have taken my '95 pension on my 60th birthday the month before as that month is now lost.

Jeez, I reckon you'll probably have £600 a month that you could have been drawing from age 60. That's wasted money, I don't think you can claim it back dated. Get claiming it as a matter of urgency. With that much coming in you might be able to drop to 3 days.
