Two members of staff given a clash of hours...

So I am in a situation where my hours were illegally reduced at work (bit complicated to explain), and a replacement to cover those hours has been employed to start in September.

My union says my original hours still exist, but now there is another member of staff who will be doing the same job, in a job where only one person can be doing it!

Does anyone know what happens in this situation? Both members of staff having a contract saying they are doing the job!

Not your problem

Your role of XYZ hours still exists
You are able to do your end of the contract
Your employer can assign you to do the individual tasks (or not) but still has to pay you.

What they do with the new employee is "nothing to do with you". They can hire as many people as they choose even if there are no actual roles needing to be filled.

(Or not)
So the company cant use the no tasks assigned to bully you from the role or use a slight of hand to say the role only needs the reduced hours.

Now in real life it will not be that easy and you need to be guided by your union and/or a legal specialist in HR.
