2 Full time jobs

Has anyone ever worked two jobs at once?

I currently work full-time remotely as a call handler. The role is shift-based, and while I manage it fairly well, I’ve been struggling to keep up with bills. To supplement my income, I’ve tried part-time cleaning jobs, but they’ve been physically exhausting and not sustainable long-term.

I recently found another full-time call handler position just 4 minutes' drive from my home. It also has a shift pattern, but it seems more manageable with less exhaustion from the cleaning I do from time to time and better suited to meet my financial needs.

I'm now considering submitting a flexible working request to my current employer, asking to reduce my hours to part-time so I can take on the second full-time job.

Has anyone done something similar—juggled two jobs like this?

Is this a sensible move?
Should I expect pushback from my current employer?
Could this request potentially lead to my termination?

I’d really appreciate any insight or advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation or have experience navigating flexible working requests while trying to manage financial pressure.

PS:I LOVE MY CURRENT JOB. I JUST NEED MIRE INCOME

Have you checked your contract OP, or checked with the other job that this would be okay with them? I’d be surprised if both jobs were okay with you working elsewhere anywhere close to permanently/full time type hours, especially with shift work so presumably at some point there could be a clash.

Thanks for your response. Yes you are right. It might be too conflicting especially since my current job would have to make all the adjustments to accommodate a new job. . I think I will just keep looking for a part time role that will not require my current job to make any adjustments.

Can you speak to your employer about your financial situation? They may have overtime opportunities or be able to discuss pay rises/internal promotions etc that would help. I do think you should also discuss with them whether their contact stops you working elsewhere. I would certainly expect that you could not work elsewhere in the industry.

Thanks for your response. It is not the same industry one is a tech company while the other is a charity. It is just the same role. Also, current company have increased salary by 1.5% and my hours by 5 more hours weekly but my financial need requires much more. They are willing to adjust my schedule to give me 2 fixed days off to pursue other employment (I have been cleaning those days but it is exhausting and i can only do about 8hrs of cleaning every weekend). The new job I found requires a permanent employee wirh rotating 4days on and 4 days off which leaves me with the option to ask my current employer to change my availability to work those 4 days off on a part time basis. It just feels like I would be taking a piss choosing another job over them despite all the adjustments they have made and potentially risk being terminated in future.
