Just after an opinion - was told this morning I was moving desks, no problem apart from I would now be facing the other way, towards the rubbish glaring lights in the office , which I’ve tried twice before and had to move, the light bounces off my glasses and keyboard and gives me a headache, told my manager this twice at least this morning, who said no where else to sit, had a grumble to a few colleagues as I was packing and then my manger asked me in the office to ask why I hadn’t asked for a word and was telling other people, said I had told her at least twice in his morning and was made to feel like I’m over reacting and causing a drama, said will look at what she can do, offered me a screen shield which doesn’t help and said if it doesn’t work will have go home until it’s sorted as they wouldn’t be there for the rest of the day, finished work and had a bad migraine all
night, feel upset about the way I’ve been treated , have I overreacted ?

Is there no way the desk or the contents of it and chair can be reconfigured to face to the side, even if it can't face fully on the other direction? It can't be purely fixed in one position, unless it's part of a bank of booths joined together?

dollyblue01 · 22/07/2025 22:20

It’s part of a fixed bank of desks and can’t be moved any other way.

Why do you have to move desks?

Vivienne1000 · 22/07/2025 22:24

Go to soecsavers. Tell your employer you have a sensitivity to bright light

Why do you have to move desks?

To accommodate new starters and help them mingle in or so to speak, some of the team won’t sit next to other members of the team either, the usual childish office behaviour, but I’m just meant to sulk it up.

I have good glasses, but not anti glare ones and not willing to pay 100 to have this just to keep other people happy.
I was fine where I was no issues.

Come home from work and had a migraine all night that I cant shift and feel ever so slightly stressed, because of today and the way it was dealt with.

dollyblue01 · 22/07/2025 22:31

I was told if I couldn’t cope today to go home , however as I’m on a final warning for previous stress and being sick I couldn’t do had no choice but to sit there , despite it making me ill.

Can you ask to see occupational health? If you have a history of migraine they might be able to make recommendations.

dollyblue01 · 22/07/2025 22:37

Yeah I could do that, definitely and will see what can be done tomorrow.

If you haven’t provided a medical note or formally requested a reasonable adjustment during application, management’s options are limited—line managers must consider the whole team.
If lighting is causing migraines, see an optician and get proper documentation to support future adjustments.

It’s understandable to be upset, but raising concerns directly with your manager is more productive and proper than venting to colleagues. In this case, yes—you’ve overreacted.

Can you ask for a specialist DSE assessment and OH referral. In my office some bulbs have been removed to accommodate people's preferences.
