Do toxic senior management ever get their comeuppance?

We have a toxic person in our depts SMT. Largely their behaviour has been pushed aside, ignored and excused, often citing their neurodiversity. We have lost several team members due to this. Head of dept seems to allow it, as seems to have lost interest and looking forward to their own personal career growth.

After an issue that blew up with me a few months ago, more senior staff in the organisation started to perhaps take the issues a bit more seriously. Questions have been cautiously asked of the teams, which felt slightly like fishing. I know several of this staff members direct reports have provided examples of their behaviour.

Is this hopefully the start of things changing? Or are we being too hopeful?

I can’t understand this due to all the various managers. It’s someone in senior management but not your direct line manager?

Don't hold your breath. Hopefully they are on their way out, but I'd work on the assumption that you will have to work with them for a long time.

It takes time but with a bit of luck they get found out and pushed out. Years ago I had a horrible manager. Reported it to the CFO who did nothing except said he would send horrible manager on management training. I resigned and told CFO very clearly it was due to the manager. Told HR in my exit interview. A few years later he was made redundant after 25 years in the organisation, so was most likely given a very nice parting gift.

It’s happening again where I work now. I’m leaving, in part due to a shit manager. His manager asked me for feedback as she said she cannot fix what she doesn’t know about. So I told her at a high level the issues. I know another person who reports to him resigned on Friday, and she has previously raised issues to this same senior manager about him. The person who is leaving has told me about a few other people who have issues with the shit manager, so hopefully they are raising it too.

i think it takes several people raising issues before it’s taken seriously, but if enough people speak up, something has to be done. All you can do is play your part in speaking up and encourage others to do the same.
