Remote work

Has anyone had any luck finding decent remote work jobs lately? I’m desperate to find one like I’m sure a lot of people are. I’m currently an admin assistant I have tonnes of experience, super creative, have a degree, really proactive and friendly but I just can’t find anything… I need something for around 16 hours a week or a little more. I don’t mind what I’m doing at all aslong as I can get stuck into it… any advice?

I have a remote job, as does my partner and a lot of people I know - and I've actually just got a new position, still remote.

However these are all specialist jobs. I think your willingness to do anything might be your downfall. In my experience recruiting, I've got about 10 times as many applicants for remote jobs than in person. If you're looking at more generalist positions, it's even worse.

Are there any particular types of businesses you have worked in? I would be focusing on these.

Look on charityjpbs.co.uk

The pay isn’t always as good in the third sector but there are usually loads of remote or hybrid admin/entry level roles on there.

Echoing PP.

I work remotely but in extremely niche speciality. Perhaps you could focus/emphasise one of your particular skills?

Ahh okay I see! Totally get what you mean I think it’s more because I can be quite adaptable and have a few different skill sets that can spread across different areas but yes you’re probably right! I have a degree in early childhood studies and currently work in a primary school so something in the education field would be the most suitable but a lot of admin type jobs within that field aren’t usually remote… unless they are and I just need to keep digging!

Working for the Open University (I know someone who does this in a non-teaching role)?

Online tutoring?

Ah, I'd definitely focus on that. I think in such a difficult market, although your skills are broad, I think you want your experience to match up as exactly as possible to hopefully get an interview. Another poster mentioned charities, and that might be a good focus.

I've no idea if it's suitable, and the pay is pretty bad, but this is an admin role where work in a school would really be an asset, and they are open to job share, so I'd maybe be looking for this sort of thing.
