Teaching entitlements (off ill)

Hi,

Can anyone clarify? If I am an ECT 1 and worked since September(recently became ill) would I now be on my second year of service sick pay wise so be entitled to 50 days full pay? Sick leave refreshes at the start of April, doesn’t it?

TIA

Not from memory. A year is a year from when you started.

if you miss more than 30 days in the first year you won’t be able to progress to year two though.

Although this suggests your version is correct.

ask your union rep?

Why would you be on your second year of teaching if you started teaching in September (2024?).

I guess because op thinks it refreshes in April with the new financial year . Does that mean you took time off previously, op?

In my school sick leave refreshes at the start of the an academic year.
I was an ECT and had 45 days off (bereavement) in Year 1 so I then ‘owed’ them the 45 days.

Was yours an academy or independent school?

Might be a rolling year...depends if your school/LA have burgundy book terms

Hatty65 · 03/07/2025 17:54

Under the Burgunday book, I believe it is a rolling year. Either way, you are in your first year of teaching still.

RechargeableGnu · 04/07/2025 19:26

Your union rep can answer that.

MumofSpud · 04/07/2025 22:45

Mine was an academy
