Redeployment and flexible working

My DH is at risk of redundancy but an alternative job has been offered. Increased wage but longer hours. At the minute he has flexible working agreement to work 8am - 4:30pm for childcare instead of 8am - 5pm. New job is 7:30am - 5pm.

I've looked on ACAS and can't see what should be done in terms of agreed FW arrangements and his employer are useless and didn't say anything when asked. I just want to know what DH's rights are, whether it can be transferred or re-negotiated to say 7:30 - 4:30pm or whether it has to be a whole new application. I work away regularly and compressed hours so often do need DH to do pick up from after school club.

Would phone ACAS and in the meantime DH should put in writing that he’d like his flexible work arrangement to continue and ask the employer to reply.

It’s a different job with a new contract, I don’t see how this will be anything other than down to the employers discretion. Unless fw is offered to all employees for all jobs, then it’s not guaranteed for this one. Thai situation is utterly shit, but he has been thrown a bit of a lifeline here

Going through similar in the NHS, effectively if it's a new contract it has to be requested again AFAIK. I've been verbally told mine 'isn't an issue', but what employers say and then do is sometimes words apart!

Thanks all, it's all happening very fast and it's a lot to take in. DH is reluctant to take offer of redeployment due to long hours and being tired and not liking the company for how they have treated him. I agree with all of it but I am of the view it is easier to get a job while in a job and whilst redundancy payment would be nice it won't last forever and there is no guaranteed job out there. If I only had a crystal ball!

Will put some questions together for his employer and try ACAS again tomorrow.

Any flexible arrangement applies to the current role, there’s no automatic right to transfer it to a different position. He’d have to make a new flexible work request for the new job.

CaptainFuture · 02/07/2025 19:05

Does he take a shorter lunch/less pay to cover for the half hour between 430 and 5 just.now? Would they consider same reasoning in new job?

Loopytiles · 03/07/2025 06:22

Yeah, he should take the redeployment IMO

I had this issue and was advised that if you are 'redeployed' any flexible working arrangements should come over to the new post
