I'd like to qualify as a bookkeeper but I have to do it from home. If I take a home study course through the Institute of Chartered Bookkeepers, is this actually the right way to do it? I'm scared of falling for a scam, or getting a qualification that doesn't mean anything. Is this the best organisation to go with?

Thanks for any advise!

DH says institute for chartered bookkeepers is a good one. Go for it and good luck.
(he's a chartered accountant)

Have a look at this.

not sure, but check the AAT - see if they do a distance learning version, or see if you can do 1 or 2 hours per week at local college. AAT is more than the book keeping courses as it is for an accounting technician, and has three levels. I would say that companies (rather than individuals) would look at AAT more favourably than Book keeping alone. If you were looking at self employed then the Book keeping might be better.
