Company going into administration 2 months before redundancy date, what to expect?

Hello everyone,

I wonder if anyone could help please?

About a month ago, the whole of our company were notified of redundancy and given the date of the end of August this year.

We were informed there would be statutory redundancy pay and any accrued holiday in our final pay cheque (September 1st).

However, this morning we were all called into an emergency meeting to say that the company was going into administration on Monday and that Monday 30 June would be our final day of employment. We were also told there would be no July/August pay roll and that we would have to apply to the Insolvency company to get any money owed which might take a while.

I am confused how our final day of employment can have suddenly changed to just a few days time from the end of August, surely the employer would have to pay for the July and August as that was the notice period? Or can just suddenly change the notice period?

Also, about how long to expect before we can receive statutory pay etc?

Any shared experiences most welcome as worrying now about mortgage and bills as I will have no job from Monday.

The company has no money. It can’t continue going and, I’m afraid, there is no money to pay your July/August salary. They are right that you can apply as a creditor and you may get some money back when all the assets of the company are sold off but it may not be much at all. I’m sorry, it’s a shitty situation but your priority now is probably finding a new job asap.

This happened to me a few years ago. It took months to get the pay, I would prioritise getting a new job asap.
one thing I remember was having to go to the job centre to sign on for job seekers allowance. I was advised that all benefits you are entitled to are deducted from your final payment whether you claimed them or not, so don’t lose this money.
stressful situation. Wishing you good luck!!

Thank you for your replies, it means a lot.

It's been a bit of a rollercoster ride and I had only just got used to the idea of being made redundant from September... but now to be given just 2 working days notice and the prospect of no salary...😖

I think I need to just go to bed now. It's been a horrible day. Hopefully I will feel more positive in the morning.

There is no company to keep going til August. They've gone bust and with no money to pay you.

The link already posted will tell you what you can claim from the Redundancy Payments Office. If the company is in administration the administrators might give you the same info too.

yiu should get redundancy pay, notice pay and arrears of pay up to a certain limit but yes tune to look for new work too x

I would add the news style job seekers allowance is not means tested, you are entitled for 6 months subject to certain conditions, you’ll need a copy of the email saying June is last payment. USA might not be much but it’s something and if you are low income you can apply for other benefits on top
