Workplace toilet design

My workplace is being remodelled and I would welcome your opinions on how to configure the toilets.

There are six women and three men that would be sharing the facilities, plus occasional visitors. At present no disabled or trans people are on the team but facilities would need to be able to accommodate these needs within the law too.

If we had one lockable standard sized cubicle with hand washing sink and hand drying facility within, and a similar larger one for disabled people, would that meet everyone’s needs? Both would be unisex.

I am feeling that this is probably the best use of limited space, but if the doors need to be floor to ceiling for privacy with no gaps, is there a concern about access in an emergency if for instance, someone passes out in them?

I’m sure there are regulations around this for a workplace you’d have to consider but at my work we have 3 individual toilet rooms (one with hand rail and larger) with sinks, hand dryer etc in each with a lockable door that encloses the space completely.

Thank you for your reply. That kind of arrangement seems quite common in new builds. How many people does your space have to cater for @Drummend01 ?

For the numbers you describe, your proposal sounds sensible.

One accessible and one more basic one.

Concerns about access in an emergency can be resolved by having outward opening doors. The accessible one is likely to have that as part of its specification anyway.

Sanitary disposal provision in both.
