Any HR pros willing to advise on getting back to HR after a break?

Hello

I have around 3 years HR experience but have now been out of this area of work for the last 3 years due to personal circumstances. I would like to get back into HR and am looking at some part time HR admin/low responsibility roles as I feel that's where I'd be at. I do have CIPD level 5 but I feel very much out of the loop and just looking for any tips on how to get myself back up to speed? I feel if someone asked me a question now I'd have to go onto ACAS to check the up to date legislation!

Thanks in advance

Hello @Hol12 I would say that the employment law is useful to swot up on but also the “hot topics” too: hybrid/back to office, recent DEI trends especially in the light of the big legal judgments (single sex spaces/provision) and AI as examples. Are you still a CIPD member? If so get onto the discussion forums for members as there’s a careers board which would be good for you to look at.

Thank you for the reply. Great advice about current trends.
I'm not a CIPD member anymore but presume I could rejoin?
Thanks

If your applying for low level admin roles I wouldn't expect them to be asking you about legislation. Honestly I find that stuff is easier to learn as you go, if you get a job in a big org they may run employment law updates. There are some you can sign up for online too.

Great thank you. Yes that's a good point I wouldn't be in a decision making role.
Thanks 😊

You’ll be able to rejoin the CIPD, if you go on the website you can see how to do it and how much it costs

HR Manager here! You can rejoin CIPD and your Level 5 would mean you could work at HR Advisor/ Officer level. I had a short break when I had my son and went to a different company as Manager from Advisor, with my Level 5. Brush up on employment law updates and recent changes but your experience in HR doesn't disappear and I'm sure you'll find something amazing soon!
