Please help me with motivation to study for a career change

Current role has gone stagnant, I’ve reached a ceiling as to how far I can go and it’s really beginning to impact my day to day - for the first time in 15 years I’m not looking cleared to work.

There are some qualifications I can do to help me move into a sector I think I would find rewarding - but my general lack of motivation due to my current role means I find this daunting. It would take quite a while with 5/6 units I need to study for but I know it’s do-able if I commit to it.

Any words of wisdom would be welcome! From those who’ve done similar, to those who haven’t! I know the time will pass anyway but I just need to give myself that kick.

Go for it. I retrained and doubled my salary (from a low level admittedly) within four years of qualifying.

I love my job but also struggle with finding motivation until I start a task or project.so I'm going to get off this website, start doing something, and find momentum (for a while). Motivation often follows action. Good luck, you can get this done even if you feel daunted. If you have reached a ceiling at your current workplace, hopefully this means you are now at a level where you can carry out your work efficiently enough that you have leftover energy to qualify in your spare time.

I have experienced this before, I could not get motivation up because the role I was in was stressing me and I felt unappreciated. I moved sideways at the time into a new role that was more linked to what I wanted to do and that gave me motivation and examples to go alongside my studies. Last resort I guess, but an option if the day job is affecting your enthusiasm to study.

Me too. I'm so tired. And when it comes to extra study, I find it hard to fit it in after work, 4 dcs (albeit eldest is 20) and all the pets.

Then I tell myself I'm 54 so what's the point of trying to

Sorry. Not helping!

Thanks all!

@SiriusTheCatStar yes definitely at the point where it isn’t too taxing and I can get the job done with minimal strain.
