Do i hand the letter to my boss in an envolope while he is sitting at his desk? or should i have a meeting with him and tell him then?

I'd ask him if you could have a chat somewhere quiet, tell him and then hand over the letter.

jamescagney · 22/05/2008 15:07

yes what edam says. Ask for a chat in your most assertive way and watch him squirm!

Good idea. Thanks

When I did it I bounced into work one morning, said "Oh fab, you've finally given me a second computer screen. Guess what's the first thing I'm going to do on it." I'm not subtle or professional.

Hello, whole idea sounds wonderful!!!!

Most important of all, don't forget to enjoy it. Savour the moment

Hey, how did it go vinegar?
this living vicariously is great!...

I did as you lot suggested and asked my manager for a word in private and then told him the good news, it was all very plesent and he congratulated me and wished me good luck and said he understands my reasons for leaving

I really wanted to tell him how i knew he has been bitching behind my back and im leaving because he gives me scraps of crappy work to do, im so bored im climbing walls! and his management skills are poo... but i didnt, dont want to burn bridges and all that. I am very excited about my new job!

Yeah, it's always best to remain professional when leaving a job - you never know when you might run into someone again. I so wanted to give my bitch manager a rocket about how shite she was when I quit my first proper job, but erred on the side of caution. Not that she would have paid any attention anyway, everything else I had to say was brushed aside with management platitudes
