Hi, already posted this in further education but think this is more appropriate area.

Is it hellish? I used to take a lot of work home, can't imagine the job has fundamentally changed so how did you cope? I am going back part-time - does this mean that I will just end up doing reports etc on my days off?!

Yes there is still a lot of work to do in evenings and weekends, though I think the longer you do the job, the better you find ways of working round this and managing time and resources effectively.
The danger of part time is that you could end up doing a lot on your day off, so be careful you dont end up doing a full time job on part time pay!! I much prefer fulltime partly for that reason.

Out of interest how long have you been teaching? I have been teaching around 3 years. I am not a very organised person which I think adds to the stress! I am hoping that now I am a mum and have other priorities I will be more focused.

Hi - just seen this thread. I'm a teacher of around 3yrs experience too, and my maternity leave is up in a week's time. The additional planning / marking / reports etc is what's worrying me too.

I'm going back 4 days and am adamant that my day off won't be spent doing school work. As a result, I've booked swimming lessons for DS to make sure that I get out of the house and dedicate time to him instead of working.

I think that we will be more focused and use time efficiently so that we can make the most of our time with our LO. I used to faff around all weekend planning a couple of lessons, but now want to try and get it done in a couple of hours to free up the rest of the weekend. That's the plan anyway... Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the post, glad to know their is a fellow faffer out there! I used to spend ages on Powerpoints etc that the learners couldn't give a toss about anyway. I am hoping to be the very model of stream-lined efficiency from now on! I don't go back until August but best of luck and will you let me know how it goes?
