Workday rejection email after final interview

Arghh the dreaded rejection email arrived in my inbox at 5.30pm today. Has anyone ever applied for a job via the Workday portal. I had coffee with the manager after a friend referral which went really well, then formally applied for the job, followed by 2 more interviews and a presentation. I thought it had all gone really well over the last 6 weeks and, final interview was 2 weeks ago and they said id hear back this week, then today I got a generic automated email from Workday. Gutted. Also thought after all the emails back and forth they might have least emailed me personally. But I just got a generic email to say that "whilst I may not have heard from them, the position is either currently filled or they are no longer recruiting". It's disappointing but do you think I can email them to ask for feedback, I genuinely want to know what I need to work on because I'm struggling to get a permanent role but equally I feel like the automated rejection email is their way of saying they don't want to discuss it further.

Based on my experience I’d say you’re fortunate to get a reply at all, to be honest. A lot of places don’t bother. I find it rude too, although I guess it depends whether there were 5 people in for the job, or 50.

i don’t think there’s any harm in asking for feedback - worst case scenario, they say no. Or they might send you something quite generic, but you never know!

Workday sends those notifications out automatically when the position is marked as filled. It may be that they still intend to give you personal feedback - but definitely ask them for it, it's bad form not to give a personal reply and feedback after two interviews and a presentation.

Yeah we use workday to hire, it's a ball ache - once you move the process ahead it blasts out automatic disposition emails, often before we get a chance to connect with unsuccessful candidates. You can totally ask for feedback

Definitely ask for feedback - you’ve got nothing to lose. And if you frame it as helping you develop it’s a positive step - they may have roles for you in the future.

I think it's really rude and disrespectful when they have insisted in such a drawn out interview process. They should give you feedback.

Yeh I'm pretty down about it as I really liked the team and thought they liked me. But it was a career change so i was always a wild card. Although I never met the HR manager. To be honest might have a dodged a bullet there, she seemed a bit unprofessional, started all her emails with "hi dear", didn't show up to either of my interviews and forgot to send me the project until 4 days before the interview. It's ok though, what's meant for me will find me.
