I'm on maternity leave currently and was due to go back to my nhs job the end of August after 10 months off. I applied for university in March expecting not to get in this year as I didn't think I had enough experience and the interview was hard so was thinking it was more practice but I've had an unconditional offer for the course which I have now accepted. I will have to go back to work a month early as if I don't go back for a minimum of 3 months then I would have to pay back OMP which I'm not in a position where I could afford that with being a full time student soon and us relying solely on my husbands wage. Uni starts the end of September so I'm hoping to use the last month I owe with annual leave I've built up and carried over from previous year. I'm scared to have the conversation with my manager. Is it best to just say I'm coming back early and fill in paperwork for that and then say I'm leaving closer to the time or tell her now the reason I'll be back early the end of July? I need to give 4 weeks notice for my post. I've been working for the department for 9 yrs now and I've wanted a change for awhile.
I need to tell her this week as we also need to provide 8 weeks notice of when we are returning if its different to what was originally put down when you went off on mat leave.
TIA
