Midwifery Qualifications- Help

Hi guys,

Hoping I can have some advice. I’m a 27 ftm and recently been really inspired in going into midwifery. I have a degree already from a Russell Group university, however in a completely different field.

I’d love a career in midwifery however seriously do not know the best route. I’ve looked into Open University and Apprenticeships however not 100% sure what I am looking for.

Can anyone point me in the right direction/ any advice. I’ve read you do not specifically need a degree to get into the field anymore, however can’t find any opportunities supporting this.

I would entertain part- time study however any other less extortionate routes would be greatly recommended!

You need to apply to university and complete a 3 year full time degree, there may be other routes for people working as nursing associates in maternity but that's not relevant to you at the moment. The course is 50% practice based so not going to be offered by OU.

The OU definitely ran nursing courses in the past so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did midwifery too, there are lots of options. Are you limited to a local uni ( in which case start there!) There are 2 year masters options ( def for nursing) for people who have completed degrees in closish fields but I’m not sure of the criteria.

best option would be to start making contact speak to the local Uni’s or the local hospital and start building your options good luck
