Facing redundancy in my 60s

Been in my current role less than two years, and recently found out the company are making redundancies from various departments including mine. Given my age I doubt that many companies will be knocking down my door in a bid to employ me, but I am not financially in a position to retire.

Not sure why I am posting, but maybe a mix of hand holds and positive experiences along the lines of 60 is the new 30, maybe?

I don’t know your skill set and seniority obviously, but I got made redundant at age 63 as the pandemic kicked off. It took a while to find something as for the first few months there was an impact on hiring, but I got a job in eight months and I’ve moved on again eighteen months ago even though I’m now past state pension age. Decent companies value experience and skills and I work with loads of people in their 60s. The men don’t seem to worry so why should we.

Also unsure of what job sector but when I was job seeking at 58 I found the NHS and civil service were not discriminatory with age.

My husband got made redundant twice in his 60s. The first time he found work relatively easily. He just had one potential employer who wasn't keen due to his age (and said so expressly).

The second time, he effectively retired early. This time around he had an issue because his certificates had run out, they last for 3 years in his industry, and any new employer would have to renew at great expense and not get a full 3 years out of him before he hit state pension age. He was also physically falling apart which didn't help him in a manual industry. Despite all of that and not looking for a job this time, he keeps getting offered casual, short term jobs to do work that doesn't require him to be certificated.

Not sure what you do or how much you absolutely have to earn, but I am sure you will find something.
