NHS Admin Recruitment Advice

I am in the process of applying for an administrator position at my local GP surgery. This is my third attempt at landing this type of role in the NHS in the last few months. Previously I have performed well at my interviews, but no matter how well they seem to go and how good my answers are, I am never offered the role as I come second to people with previous NHS experience...even for Band 2 entry roles.

Please could anyone who recruits for these type of positions give me some advice? I understand the interviews are done on a points system, so does this mean that no matter how suitable I am, if there are other people with previous NHS experience, I am never going to receive a job offer?

I have lots of professional experience and posses the skills to do the job, plus I have a degree and lots of admin qualifications, so I don't think this is the issue. I have looked at the option of temporary bank admin work to boost my chances, but from what I can see there isn't this type of work available in my area.

There are many different IT systems within the NHS and someone who is already familiar with it will score high. Make it clear that you are aware there may be systems that you are not familiar with but that you are a fast learner. Give examples of other systems you've used in past roles and how easy you found it to adapt to them.

Confidentiality is paramount. Make it clear that you are aware of this. Also data protection. Understand the limits of your role. Especially at Band 2. If they put a scenario to you, make sure you are not assuming it's something you would be expected to deal with.

Be specific about why you are applying for a particular department. Find out what they do and why you think you would be an asset to that particular field.

(Not an interviewer but have worked as admin in NHS)

Good luck.
