New career regret?

I'm not sure exactly what I’m looking for here - maybe some reassurance that everything will be okay in the end.

I recently made a career switch from marketing to financial advice. It’s been a year now, and I find myself feeling fear and anxiety every single day, to the point where I feel physically ill.

I can’t shake the feeling that I’m not good at this job! I feel incredibly fortunate to have broken into this profession since it’s challenging to transition into, and I’ve worked hard to pass numerous exams to get to this point.

My team is wonderful and very supportive, but I hesitate to ask my manager for a slower pace because the company is growing rapidly and has ambitious plans.

Has anyone else experienced similar feelings after a career change? Please tell me it gets better!

I don’t have personal experience but I can imagine it would be scary to be back at the beginning of a new line of work once you’ve got used to being quite experienced in your old line of work. That feeling of being new and not quite knowing what you’re doing is normal when you start working but probably a bit of a shock second time around.

However: logically, you must be doing fine if you have passed your exams and your company is being supportive. They would tell you if there was a problem, surely?

I think you have to give yourself a break and remind yourself that nobody feels as confident in a job they’ve done for 1 year as a job they’ve done for 10 years. And your company knows how much experience you have, so their expectations will be in line with that, they won’t expect you to be all over it.

Take it one day at a time and gradually your confidence will grow?
