Starting a business and need some help

TheEventMum · 10/05/2025 10:12

Hi I’m starting a business as a mum of two (two under 2 to be exact) my business is private events and lifestyle management, I need to get hold of air BnB owners in the ukthat would like my service to pre-decorate rooms, lay the dining table for special occasions and events for prepaid guests. However, how do I find the owners of air bnbs?

many thanks

The event mum. X

Wouldn't it be up to the Airbnb guests and not the owners to decide if they want this service? I think you might need to do a bit more market research.

fuckislessoffensivethanpardon · 10/05/2025 10:28

Is this something that is actually wanted? Do you live in a area of a high Airbnb saturation? I can't see this being viable tbh.

TheEventMum · 10/05/2025 10:30

@TennesseeStella thank you for your comment, if guests book in the uk and aren’t from the area they would as the air BnB owners for the best recommendations for party plannners, balloons, catering etc :) hope that helps with answering your query.

If you haven’t spoken to air B&B owners already, you have no idea what they want or don’t want.

Read The Mom Test book and then come back

MmeChoufleur · 10/05/2025 10:31

It sounds like something that you’d be better focusing on locally. You’d really travel all over the UK to leave a bottle of champagne and scatter some rose petals?

TheEventMum · 10/05/2025 10:31

@fuckislessoffensivethanpardonthis is something that is happening in a few areas of the uk and is a new trend :)

@MmeChoufleursorry I wasn’t very clear in my question, but yes obviously it would just be in my local area and not across the whole of the uk

The issue is no-one will give you a list of air bnb owners due to GDPR. Probably the best thing to do is advertise locally and see what kind of response you get, then it’ll most likely be word of mouth to generate more business?

Overthebow · 10/05/2025 10:38

How does this work, would the person hiring the Airbnb have to pay for an extra day so you can come decorate before they arrive?

healthybychristmas · 10/05/2025 10:40

I do admire you for wanting to start your own business particularly when you have two small children but I don't think this is viable. Who is going to pay you, the Airbnb host or the person who's going to stay at the Airbnb? The host arranges cleaning anyway so has a contact there or does it themselves. You cannot promise to set the table in a particular way when you have no idea what the Airbnb provides. Is there something else that you could do that is more likely to bring in more money?

Ariela · 10/05/2025 10:41

I would say there is more work/more money in doing wedding stuff, celebration parties etc.

TheEventMum · 10/05/2025 11:16

@ItsMutinyontheBunty thank you! Most helpful comment on here :)

Don’t most airbnbs come with a no parties rule? I can’t imagine owners wanting to encourage parties at their properties.

JudgeBread · 10/05/2025 12:01

Honestly something that you've seen trending on tiktok or Pinterest is rarely going to actually be a viable, profitable business model.

LoveIndubitably · 10/05/2025 12:28

So is the idea that the AirBNB hosts offer this to their booked guests as an optional extra for the guests to pay for, and they take on the admin of offering this and letting you know, and you get a portion of what they charge?

If you're running a business it's important to be clear with what you're proposing... good luck! I do agree with a pp that parties are often restricted though?

shalamakooky · 10/05/2025 12:30

You will need to do market researcg

dont spend before you know what the market is

SamphiretheTervosaur · 10/05/2025 12:38

Have you looked at estate agents, letting agents too?

Posher houses need to be dressed, its called home staging.

fiftyval · 10/05/2025 14:10

Have you considered contacting the local DMO to ask if they are aware of the local need? Also research companies who let out high end holiday accommodation who offer extra services for their clients.

fiorentina · 10/05/2025 14:24

Could you contact local catering businesses or contact private chefs, these are the kind of companies the Airbnb guests would also utilise. The type of people that use your services may also use mobile massage services or similar so you could contact them to see if you can partner at all.
I would promote your services on local social media, get a decent SEO optimised website, LinkedIn, insta and Facebook page for example so that guests googling can potentially find you and see your work.

PricklyLikeCactus · 10/05/2025 18:18

How much would you intend to charge for doing this?

I have several Airbnb’s and I just can’t imagine using this service. I don’t encourage parties but if guests do dinners or celebrations whilst they are staying I wouldn’t know when, and they would bring their own bits to add to our (already lovely!) decor.

stayathomegardener · 10/05/2025 18:30

Airbnb super host of 7+ years and I just don’t think this is viable.
The industry is really struggling this year with bookings and prices down.

Customers are trying to save money where they can and just bring their own decorations/table setting upgrades.

Hosts also either fully cater for that type of event themselves or hugely discourage parties or large gatherings.

stayathomegardener · 10/05/2025 18:32

I think the restaging/decluttering for house sales is more viable.
