Are they wrong?

Our company has a system called TeamNet for their holiday allowance bookings etc…

I work 20 hours a week. That’s 2 full days (8-4) and 5 floating hours I can work at any time in the week (I use these to catch up)

I don’t work set days as I’m at university. So some weeks I’ll work mon/thurs, another could be mon/tue, another wed/fri etc… never set days.

my total allowance is correct, however HR booked all the bank holidays off that fall on a Monday, as I often work Mondays. This left me with no holiday left from April-January.

I questioned this and they said TeamNet doesn’t allow for flexible days, and they have to rota me as set days even though I don’t work set days. They class my set days as Monday and Thursday, as when I first went to university I worked those days for the first month.

so for example, they’ve now taken a days holiday for Monday (may bank holiday) even though my work days this week are Thursday and Friday.

i don’t understand this at all. They have my full rota so they know what days I’m working for months ahead… my manager has said he doesn’t care what days I work as long as the work is done… so I work around uni and always have.

You need to take it up with HR but all our part timers or staff working condensed hours have to use their annual leave hours to book time off.

Were you allocated your holiday allowance to include the BH?

That's definitely wrong, as you're working the full 20 hours that week so no annual leave needed. I would suggest asking them to put your working days as Tuesday/Thursday, and then you book any time you're actually taking off from your leave allowance. What days you actually work can stay between you and your manager.

You might need to get your manager involved though, to approve a 'change of days'.
