Am I jumping the gun?

I have worked in my current role for a year, within a charity. It’s remote, I love it, great work/life balance but they throw money down the drain. A consultant has been brought in to review the staffing, and has made recommendations to the board. I, along with a group of others have been invited to a call with the CEO next week to discuss next steps.

So it doesn’t sound great does it? Along with some other mutterings, I got spooked - I cannot afford to be out of work. I saw another role online that looked really interesting (same salary but some days in the office a 30 min drive away) and applied yesterday. I got an email this morning inviting me to interview next Tuesday!

I wouldn’t have even been looking had I not been feeling so uneasy about everything. Shall I go to the interview? I don’t actually want to leave my role if it’s safe, it could be secure but I won’t find out anything until after the interview, call is next Thursday. WWYD?

Go to the interview. You probably won't get an offer/outcome until after the group call anyway.

I would absolutely still go to the interview. It’s not like you’re accepting the job - many, many people realise a job is not for them during the process anyway, it’s what it’s there for.

On the flip side, even if your job is safe for now, sounds like they’re making changes anyway and you may find the workplace changes quickly from what you’re used to so far. It’s always useful to have an idea of what else is out there/your ‘value’ on the market, as well as a nice confidence boost if you need it when it comes to applying for other jobs in the future.

Good luck x

Definitely go. There’s only two days between the interview and your call so you probably won’t hear back from the interview until Thursday anyway. And if you hear back on Wednesday and they offer it to you, you can always say you’ll get back to them the next day.

Thank you! I think I will definitely go to the interview anyway, always good as a refresher. You’re right - people already seem to be dropping like flies and my work has increased massively, it probably is going to continue that way..
