Facing redundancy what do I need to know

I got the dreaded call today that I'm at risk of redundancy, seeing as I'm the only one that does what I do I'm thinking I'm gone. What to I need to do? It's my first time so I want to make sure I do everything correctly.

Look at the ACAS website so you understand your right, including your right to be offered any suitable alternative employment if you’ve been there 2 years

Thanks I've been there 4 years and they are sending me a list of available positions but as the cuts are department wide it is very unlikely I'll see something. I will check acas

I was made redundant at end March. My company enhanced the package and the first 30K is tax free (not that I got that much). I’d be asking about the package, references, waiver of min competes, is the onus on you to look for another role within the company, are they going to give you assistance to get another role (I am engaged with a company my employer put me in touch with who looks at your cv, linked in profile, interview techniques etc). Are many staff in consultation for redundancy? I’d be asking if it’ll be garden leave etc. I thankfully have got another job to go to because I did an aggressive job search. Try and get recommendations on your linked in from those you’ve worked with etc. I also applied for job seekers allowance which helps with pocket money. Good luck! It’s tough out there depending on what you do

Thanks, I'm still waiting for my first consultation so you have given me some good questions. Glad you got something straight away, that's my biggest fear that I can't support my family.

I'm currently between jobs. It is scary, but try not to let your mental health and confidence collapse.

I am not drinking any alcohol, for example, as that can be a depressant.

Try to keep up with exercise - and you are allowed "time off" from job searching activity - and also some moments of light relief.

Thanks, funnily enough I said to my husband about alcohol and I'm not to drink every night as I know it will make me more anxious

I found out today I didn't get a second interview for a job I quite fancied. Hey ho..

Definitely speak to ACAS and also keep a record of all conversations you have with HR about redundancy. The exact wording they use and then run it by acas or an Employment solicitor to check if there is anything unfair about it. Keep your own counsel at work and stay calm, it's an emotional process so stay professional and remember you'll be on the other side of all this in a few months.
