I'm working in customer service for an LGA. It sucks But the commute is easy and it's all close to the local school.

I have a virtual PA and she is wonderful. Could you do something like that? It requires organisation but no specific qualifications as such - just good life experience.

But IME most fully remote jobs require a lot of experience and a level of seniority - it took me 17 years to get mine!

I had 15 years out. Returned to my pre-baby profession after updating my skills.

HolyStyleFailBatman · 27/04/2025 22:23

Do you have any qualifications? What did you used to work at?

CanteringAlong · 28/04/2025 13:37

I did a lot of admin work before in different sectors. The world of work has changed a lot I'm sure so I'm open to anything wfh.

I am in this position also. I have been doing half days volunteering in an admin role to try and expand and update my skills

Would you be happy re-training? I work as a massage therapist from home.

WinterFoxes · 28/04/2025 13:55

I had a skill that is sought after in various ways. I tutored, set up adult evening classes from home, got funded to give presentations in schools. Now I work from home for clients all over the world, alongside P/T adult ed for a local uni and online work for other unis. I love my work. But it really did start with me sticking notices up around the village saying, Does anyone want to learn X? And people did.
Choose something you are good at that other people find hard and turn it into a money-maker. If you speak a language, are good at Maths, have excellent English a nd a degree that could make you a specialist copywriter (eg Chemistry for medical copywriting or law for legal) - all of these are money spinners. Good with a sewing machine is another.

thank you! And yes, I'd love to re-train but no idea what

I work for a charity with a local head office and I wfh 4 days a week with one office day. I started in a data admin role and now do something more techy but there are “officer” and admin grade roles in every team within the organisation. Definitely worth looking into.

Flightfromhell · 28/04/2025 19:29

What do you like doing - anything in the trades?

CanteringAlong · 28/04/2025 21:20

no trades. I like crafting but not good at it lol!. I like culture but must wfh as I'm a carer too.
