New job stress

I got a new job - great people, team and org.

However some of the work is a nightmare.

Being a bit vague but am managing projects on the client side. Some of these have been going on for several years. One of them is at the end so have been tying this up. I'm meant to invoice the client but I'm fucked if I can work out the correct amount. As far as I can work out the person who left has got it wrong and I have no idea why. I've gone back over history but am really none the wiser - and the more I look the worse it seems to look. I think we should get the lower amount I'm going to invoice for. I feel nervous about all the other bits I'm tying up too. This is an ongoing client, I've not remotely enjoyed this part of the job. There's two other clients and the overall client side is meant to be 50% of the role.

I'm struggling to know whether to stick it out in the hope that once I've got this side in hand that I will enjoy the role more and focus on the other side.

Or if I'm deluded in which case I'm gutted. The salary is 40-45k and spent Saturday working 😭.

Have you discussed it with your line manager? I’d expect one of my direct reports to do this, especially if it involved mostly work done by a predecessor and you’re new in role.

I would ask your line manager and explain what predecessor had put and explain why you aren't sure if it should be different and that you have tried to review but could do with line managers opinion. Hopefully they will make a decision.

I think new jobs can be challenging whilst you get to know what you are doing and a lack of a proper handover makes things more challenging. Expecting someone to work on Saturdays isn't ideal. I would stick it out and see how it goes.

Yeah thanks. That's pretty much where I've got to. To share info and check their understanding.

Think what's frustrating is I'm constantly told - that shouldn't take long, then it's a nightmare.

Overall strategy isn't my problem, but may need to flag that if they want me to delve further into it then will need to drop or revise the timeline on another part of what I'm meant to be doing as that will be impacted.

Also not listening when someone says yes won't take long.
