I am being pressured to complete one for my manager. Have had issues with this person.

As HR know I haven’t completed it they will know what my answers are. Which will be honest. And not good.

Is it acceptable to tell HR I will be abstaining and they can work out from that what I think?

I had a request for one of these in my old job. I ignored it and no one chased me. One of my managers was okay, the other was useless. I didn’t think I could just do one and didn’t want to tell the truth as I didn’t trust one of the HR officers.

If you have issues, these should really have been raised before. What are you worried the outcome of completing it will be?

By not responding you are jeopardising how you are viewed. It's not professional.

There must be ways in which you can word things that allow you to convey some of your issues diplomatically if you aren't comfortable going all out.

Doyoumind · 24/04/2025 19:24

And if they've told you it's anonymous, it likely won't be anonymous for HR whenever it's completed anyway. It's just anonymous for the recipient.

I had an issue with this person earlier this year which I took to HR. It was dealt with by my direct line manager (I have 2, this is the other one).

If I recall there was one of these done a year ago and I assume this one is a repeat to see if there has been progress?

I would say not.

Fill it out using careful words. If you don’t fill it out then nothing can happen. You don’t know if HR are looking for one more complaint before they can take action.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 24/04/2025 20:15

Is it HR or your manager pressuring you to complete it?

I usually just ignore feedback requests if I’ve nothing nice to say about a manager.

shortsaint · 24/04/2025 20:46

I’ve had messages from both that they want me to and it’s now overdue. I thought they wouldn’t notice if I just ignored them.

Can you just make it really bland?

Talipesmum · 25/04/2025 13:44

Presumably they all know what you think, and would like to have it documented whether there’s been any improvement or not. It’s your manager being evaluated, not you. The results aren’t shared till they’re all in, so it shouldn’t be obvious certainly to your manager what you wrote - often there’s lots of multiple choice ratings answers which are of course anonymous. Keep text answers short and bland.

shortsaint · 25/04/2025 17:18

Thanks all. I did it. Mainly multiple choice. Kept it honest and fair.
