I need a career change - minimum people contact

I currently work in project management, which I'm good at. I have great organisational skills and can manage a hefty budget. However, my role also includes line managing and supporting members of the public. I'm autistic and find this so difficult.

I would like a new job, perhaps still in project management but without the peopling side of it. I don't mind contact with colleagues.

Because of the heavy people aspect of my role, I'm burnt out. Totally and utterly.

Is there any other role similar to project management without the people?

I also like trains and planes, but I don't think becoming a train driver or a pilot is on the cards. I can't afford to become a pilot!

What are your IT skills like? They are quite often solitary positions though one of my friends has just been made redundant who works in credit card payments as a programmer or some sort who has been WFH for many years and before covid.

Working in solitary confinement is my dream. Is it a big company they work for?

I would second IT. I'm not autistic, but I'm quite an introvert. Software development has been an OK career for me.

They did work for a big company, I have a lot of friends that work in IT. I’m no specialist though I can in theory write web pages, haven’t for years and can do some very basic programming but it’s in very old languages, worked in an information environment for many years hence knowing loads of them. Plus I game online and loads of them game. Pay is incredibly variable from ones that work as IT support in education, public sector (pay awful and probably worst sector to work in as anyone gifted isn’t working for those peanuts ) up to Mate who works for an investment bank ( highly paid has a PhD) to ones that work in games development ( not great pay but what a lot want to do so they can pay quite low). Do know one guy who works in cyber security, ex copper who retrained after retiring due to an injury received on duty, not UK either so no idea how he went about it. Some low level stuff is being replaced by AI.
