When is taking a risk worth it?

I’m currently in a job that’s fairly comfortable, good pension, good annual leave, good work life balance etc. I’ve been there over 2 years so if I was made redundant I would get a pay off (this is important to me as I was made redundant previously).

But I know I am capable of more, and earning more. But when I see jobs advertised that are £5k more (for example), I question if it’s really worth it after the increased tax, a lower annual leave allowance, a less generous pension etc etc. even if it’s more money, is it worth the stress of a new job, probation period and starting at the bottom, knowing if they make you redundant or decide to get rid of you for any reason you’re out on your elbow with no/little notice.

when do you decide it’s worth the risk to go elsewhere, even if it means starting again and losing the benefits you’ve built up?

I think you need to figure out what you want and what steps will take you there, and then you’ll know when to jump

When it’s either a significant amount more pay, or just going to make you happier in some way.
