Private hospital appointment

Hi,

I have a consultant willing to see me privately next week.

Do you think appointment at a private hospital (it isn’t nhs sending me to a private hospital but I’m going to pay to see someone) would/could this be treated as a normal doctors appointment?

The private hospital said they can issue a letter confirming the appointment.

I’ve been with my currently employer a year at a time they are changing the way our staff system works so looking at all kinds of options for the time off with policies now up in the air for a bit.

Thank you.

Yes of course it would.

Why wouldn’t it be?

If it were for a purely cosmetic procedure? In the same way you often wouldn’t be able to claim sick leave to recover from a purely cosmetic procedure/op.

Thank you, I’m really unsure whether it’s considered elective as I’m paying or something like that, I really want to avoid having a conversation with employer if it can be avoided but then my sensible head say’s remember over the last year when I’d booked annual leave to go to medical stuff when nothing can be done Saturdays and evenings it bite me on the bum.

If it’s for example a hip replacement surgery because you don’t want to wait on NHS then yes it’s the same as NHS. If it’s a cosmetic procedure such as a face lift I would say no.

Assuming you are attending the hospital regarding a medical condition then it will be treated the same way as any other medical appointment

At my work, private medical stuff which is cosmetic only must be done using annual leave.

If it's stuff the NHS would do if you waited long enough, then it's sick leave.
