Work Related Stress Help

So 2 months ago my employer fired my manager. We were a team of 2 and since then I have taken on the workload of the whole team.

I have recently been promoted with a bunch of my colleague's in other departments , however, my wage is less than my peers as my employer has deemed my work on my team as ‘not as complex’ even though this was never communicated to me and I have been acting up in my role since my manager was fired.

I am being asked to essentially fill the shoes of my manager without being paid for this role. I have spoken to employment lawyers and apparently this is lawful even though it sucks.

I have been incredibly stressed through this process. I can’t sleep, I am having panic attacks, I can’t stop crying, I can’t concentrate on anything at work.

I self certed myself off for 4 days last week for stress and have had a return to work meeting today. Work has agreed to work on a plan to help me have some more clarity with my responsibilities. This has not solved the fact I feel I am being paid unfairly and overworked.

I am feeling my mental health be seriously affected by work and considering a doctors note for time off.

I am worried about this process and how it works. Will my employer be able to dismiss me for taking time for stress when they have said they will put a plan in place? Will I be more stressed on my return as there will be nobody to cover my role in the meantime? Will it affect my ability for future employment? How does the doctor decide to give you a fit note. I’m really struggling and any information/advice would be really appreciated.

Hi OP I don’t know the answers but didn’t want to read and run. Bumping this for you so that someone more knowledgeable than me might see it!

The first step is to read up on your workplace absence policies and try to understand your legal rights.
ACAS have a helpline anyone can call for advice.

In terms of the fit note, you need to speak to a GP and if they agree you need time off work you will be given the note. You need to explain how the health issues are affecting you.

Separate out the stress issues from the salary issues.

I can’t sleep, I am having panic attacks, I can’t stop crying, I can’t concentrate on anything at work. This is the info you would discuss with your GP.
