Hello, I'd be grateful of some friendly advice - I'm currently mulling over a decision and would be interested to hear what other people would do in my position.

So, I've been in my current job coming up to a year - it'll be a year next month, in fact. In many ways it's an ideal job for me, it's something that I enjoy, and I'm lucky enough to have a very good boss who is always very appreciative for what I do. The money is less than I'd like, but my boss has mentioned about maybe getting an increase after my annual review next month. Some of the projects I'm involved with at the moment are a little bit repetitive/boring, but up till today I wasn't really considering leaving soon.

But today I've seen a job on LinkedIn that would be a dream role. It's from a very well known charity and is something that I'm personally very interested in. It's my ultimate aim to work for a brand like that, and know I'd find it very rewarding. It's for more money than I'm currently on, but the only catch is that it's a fixed-term 12 month contract. There's a line in the vacancy about the possibility of it becoming permanent after that period, but it's a risk for that reason...

Of course, there's no guarantees I'd get it (or even be invited to interview) if I applied, but it has got me excited thinking about it. It's really the first time in my career I've faced a decision like this, so what would you do if you were me? Stick where I am or risk it and submit an application?

Grateful for any responses.

A lot charity jobs will be FTC because they've been funded for a specific period. If the funding is renewed the contract will be renewed, so it woukd be worth finding out how this role is funded.

Ultimately, if job security is most important to you, charities probably aren't the right sector, but if the role makes you feel excited go for it with the confidence that you'll find something else if you need to. Afterall any job can give you notice at any time.

The time to turn down a role is when you're offered it. You lose nothing by applying.

Go for it the application and interview experience will be worthwhile too. If you get offered and you don't want it then you can turn it down - just be prepared to answer the question of why you want to move from a FT role to a fixed term contract but you sound so excited by it that should be no issue - good luck!
