Lines Counting GIF by Nick Jonas

Nearing the final month of (what feels like) a very very long 3 month notice period🙈we have reached the stage of

"Crunchy did you put that date into diaries in relation to the email from x" ahh would that be the email that was sent to you by x and you didn't forward to me - so sadly no 👀

"Crunchy can you organise a meeting (end of message) sadly my crystal ball is a wee bit cloudy 🔮 so um no

" Crunchy there are things on your to do list that you don't need to do (end of message) whoopee 😀...... what are they? ..........hello......um what are they ........

So just venting as some of my desired responses are not at all professional oh and counting the days - Anyone else going through this at the moment.😳

I'm in the last few weeks of my notice period and they've suddenly started bombarding me with work and also giving me new allocations... some of the ppl we work with are very complex and require long term ongoing work and support how do they expect me to do this in my final few weeks....

I'm trying not to complain and just getting on with it because I'm leaving soon and seems like the best time to be leaving as the whole team is miserable.

How have you both survived the 3 month notice period?

I am desperate to leave my job and tonight have changed my paremeters on my job search and applied for 13 jobs - will even take slightly less pay to get out.

only stumbling block is the 3 month notice and tbh I don’t even want to do 3 more days and I’ve not even handed my notice in yet!

what are the odds they would let me go earlier.. I suspect they won’t as company is so small so no one to do my role until they recruit

Hall84 · 08/04/2025 20:15

I finish on 2nd May after a notice period of 3 months. I was the 4th to hand my notice in so whilst everyone else has finished, not only am I working every last day I've also got a lot to do on transferred matters so they're ready for the next person. Lucky me 🙃

Brightlights23 · 08/04/2025 20:36

Oh @Hall84 that doesn’t sound good. Positive thoughts as you count down the last few weeks.

suspect my company won’t let me leave early - would love for notice to be 4-6 weeks max but as so small no one else in office would have capacity to take over until someone new started. Although they might have to if I end up having to go off sick - bordering on a panic attack today

ChirpySquid · 08/04/2025 20:51

My last working day is the 30th April but I have a couple days of annual leave to take so I'll be finishing on the 25th instead I'm so happy I can't wait. I then have a gap of about 10 days before starting my new job which is most definitely needed. I was very lucky my notice period was only a month except i chose to work an extra 2 weeks due to not wanting to have such a big gap between ending my starting my new job. regretting it now I feel almost as if they are trying to squeeze as much out of me before I go 😢

Brightlights23 · 08/04/2025 20:54

My last job had a months notice and that seemed to take forever and I only worked 20 hours a week! God knows how I will get through 3 months! I will use whatever holiday I have to shorten as much as I can. Only taken 0.5 days since new holiday year started in January so hopefully will accumulate a few weeks even if I ended up taking time off for interviews.

just wish I could hand my notice in tomorrow and start the 3 months!

Hall84 · 08/04/2025 21:08

Thanks @Brightlights23 it could be a lot worse! Although I have transferred cases I haven't been taking new ones on, so actually things are more manageable than they've been in a long while. I've got the bank holiday and then straight into a new job.
I've got some leave to take so only have 2 full weeks left, the rest are part weeks with Easter.

With a lot of Gin in the evenings 😀 - Seriously I just drew up a list of the things I thought I should get done before I left and have been plugging through that and dealing with the crazy requests as and when which now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel don't bother me so much.

I am taking 10 days after I leave before starting my new job as I feel I need to slough off the crazy and start with a non cynical mindset.

As for going early my boss said I could go early as long as they had a replacement and I could hand over.......thankfully my replacement is only on a months notice period - most places are fine with a 3 month notice period especially if they are hiring at a level and seem to appreciate you fulfilling it for your current firm.

I hear you there - They have suddenly decided that all the ills of the department going back years (I have only been there 6 months) need to be sorted out before I leave my quid pro quo is fine I can do that but I will be WFH so no distractions. and breathe

I have hope for surviving then even if it involves gin!

today it got too much and I ended up crying to HR in a catch up, who was lovely. Finally 3 hours after the chat I feel slightly calmer. Who knows if it will last.

had a good chat with HR and it will all be kept confidential so I’m hoping it means it won’t get back to the directors my line managers.

feel so stupid for crying.

but ultimately I want to get out. Just need to keep on applying.

I am only a business admisnitraor, so the 3 month notice is overkill for the pay (not great) I would assume anyone they ultimately end up recruiting to replace me would be on 1 months notice so hopefully that would mean I could leave early. Although not sure.

you have all given me hope

I'm so sorry to hear that. Don't give you keep applying and I hope you find something very soon.

Always put yourself and your mental health first! Do you get paid sick pay? I'm just wondering whether it would be beneficial for you to go off sick for a little while to give yourself a break and chance to look after your mental health.

wishing you all the best in your job search

Brightlights23 · 09/04/2025 18:05

@ChirpySquid thank you. I’m sure something will come up but just takes so long to hear. I had frenzy of applying last night but closing dates aren’t till next week and interviews mid May. But you never know what will come up in the mean time and all practise If nothing else.

we only get statutory sick pay which is an option if needed. Have a dr appt this evening to discuss my anxiety etc / not sure what they will offer as already on a worry management course. But sleep is shocking and with perimenopause on top it’s never going to be good
