Trying to stay motivated

I have plenty of work but I been feeling demotivated for sometime now. There are things to do and couple of new projects have also been assigned but I just find people around me are just running to get things done and stay busy and I have no excitement for the work. I hide it well but the joy that I use to get from my work, it seems to have faded. Anyone felt that way in their roles and how did yiu overcome the boredom?

Whenever I feel like this I go out and find something extra I can do that adds value to my role and goes down on my CV ready for the next role. One time at a B2B company I started helping apprentices with their English and maths ready for their skills assessments. Another time I started an internal newsletter to boost company morale and I really enjoyed finding stories for it because it got me networking more outside of my department.

If I can fit it in I find having a self-directed (always manager-approved) extra project of my own really helps me stay motivated to get through the less interesting aspects of a job.

Obviously if you can't fit something extra in then this doesn't work (which is how I got completely demotivated with being a teacher actually, now I think about it) and that's when I start looking hard for a new job.

Sometimes you just need a holiday to rest and get your mojo back.

I find as I'm getting older it's hard to keep up the enthusiasm and not get jaded. Could this be the case for you @RatiTeen ? I just wanted to get off the hamster wheel and not work myself into the ground.

I listen to music: classical or music for concentration while doing boring stuff. Outside work I listen to guided meditation in the morning and evening; happy music when I finish work; look for things that excite me to do in the free time, walk at lunch time, yoga, gym, nice meal, meeting friends, etc.

I also take magnesium and vitamin d.

Some days are better than others.

I cant afford not to work so try to do whatever gets me motivated.

I agree is also age related, I am early 50s.

I'm in my late 40s and I really think I would like to grow in my career but it's the race that's going on, is just tiring now.

I enjoy challenges but recently I'm been thinking how far I will be able to go if I keep running in my career alllll the time. Then I see all the senior directors around me (and more senior then me) are in the race too.

Is it menopause? It annoys me that it gets the blame for everything, but I've felt like this for about 5 years now, after previously being very committed to work, and just can't shake it. I even tried changing my job, but it's no better.

It could be perimenopause. I'm going through heavy periods last few months.

Same here. I am not sure I have the energy and motivation to climb the ladder at my age, plus I will be competing with much younger people.

I just want to do the best I can while I am there; go home and forget about it.
