Wwyd - What is normal and reasonable in a redundancy consultation?

Longish post re being made redundant.

I’ve worked in a small charity for nearly 6 years, slowly taking on more and more responsibility even tho my job title and salary band never changed. This week I was told that my role is at risk of redundancy, because they are restructuring and it’s not included in the new plans. Two new roles are being created, I’m capable of either, but I dont meet the person spec requirements. They also won’t disclose the salary bands but im
sure they will be higher than mine! They wouldn’t tell me anything about timescales, what to expect or anything like that.

I have previously been told my role was secure and would be pivotal in all future plans etc,…

we are meeting again in 2 weeks, I’ve said im
Not going to apply for a role and I would like this to be done as quickly and cleanly as possible and I will be supportive etc.

now I’ve thought about it, I don’t want to go in, I can work from home but I’m very stressed and I’m thinking of asking to be signed off. My question is, what would you do, what’s reasonable without being uncooperative and jeopardizing any package? I just want to go!

thsnk you!

Are you due any holiday?

HR gave me free holiday to take stock of the redundancy. They should give you reasonable time off to look for other roles. I would suggest you ask if they’ll give you time off to process as it’s affected your mental health but try and not take it all personally. This is happening everywhere! Business is just not great at the moment. I finish formally on 31 March and then will be officially redundant. I’ve been job hunting but trying to get out in nature or in the garden (as I was given garden leave for all of March). Try and take some time

The new holiday year starts today, so I can't really take it as I think t will be offset against any redundancy pay. I did think about taking a few sick days, feel like I need it! thank you x

You're still employed and they will probably need you to tidy things up / do a handover etc so I don't think you can expect to just down tools, much as you may wish to.

Whilst a lot of employers will put people on garden leave it's by no means an entitlement.

If you want to just go, maybe negotiate a reduced notice period but don't expect to get paid for time not worked.
