Hello, mid career change due to various factors… I have lots of experience in managing projects and people but not as an EA per se. If you recruit for these roles how fussy are you in terms of specific EA experience or would you see someone with lots of senior experience in a related role as a bonus? No idea how easy it might be to find a good position…

Hmm, I'd day you'd need the basics of online diary management, setting up Teams meetings, etc.

Basic/intermediate Word and PowerPoint and Google stuff

Mostly I'd say time management and gatekeeping skills would be appreciated

I had that type of role in a large organisation.
Meeting etiquette!.comms and IT skills.
Learn the structure quick fast.

I’m an EA, and recruit EA’s. I’d be reluctant to hire someone with no diary experience. Partly because it is a specific skill, especially across time zones. But also because I would feel the applicant wouldn’t know what they were letting themselves in for - diary management can be incredibly tedious and take up a large portion of the day.

I’m in HR and I probably wouldn’t interview you for an EA role. There are loads of experienced EAs around who have worked their way up and understand the nuances of the work. You would need to show that you can demonstrate the essential skills required and give examples.

I recruit EAs, usually with a route to chief of staff. I appreciate you’re probably senior in your field but I would not interview you based on what you say.

You need to be emotionally intelligent, proven to think ahead, gatekeep and protect your employer, discreet, you’ll be given detail into the business unit that you shouldn’t know, diary management, personal touch, these can only come with experience and understanding the demands of the role and the person.

I would however consider a PA looking to move up if the role was right. Maybe start there?
