NHS Information Governance Role

Hi
I am applying for an Information Governance role with an NHS acute trust. I feel confident that I can provide a good application but I wondered if anyone did a similar role and could advise or provide any information in relation to the interview and what they may ask so i can best prepare? Obviously I have studied the job description and person spec but it's just that added inside information that I am hoping for. It is a band 4 role (I am also this band currently so would be a sideways step) and looks like it will be focused largely on GDPR, SARS, records management etc. My background isn't this but is in NHS admin and project management but I feel I can apply my skills to the role I.e. highly organised, process driven, professional etc and it does genuinely interest me. I am currently facing redundancy as a lone parent so really really would like to do my best to get the role and interviews are always my biggest worry. All help and advice would be appreciated. Thank you!!!!!

Make sure you know the timescales of the various acts. Ie how long you have to respond. What would you do if someone was not cooperating with providing information? How would you deal with a member of the public calling to request information about them/a family member. What would you do if a breach was reported? How can you work as a team? Your strengths, the trusts values and the skills you bring. Always make unsure when they afk you why you want the job, that you reply in relation to the role. Best of luck!

Are they not asking for specialist skills? In the Trust I used to work in they also managed the systems that audited access to patient records and advised on how new systems needed to be set up in order to be legally compliant.

Assume this is part of a team with a G7+ lead that is qualified in IG?

Is it within the Trust you currently work for?
Have you studied relevant policies and SOPs?

Sign up to the information commissioners office for news and training opportunities.

check out the dspt toolkit.

is your own gdpr training up to date?

Do you need any special IT skills?

It isn't my Trust it's in a different area from where I am currently. I have been reading up on subject access requests and general GDPR and I will do more research around other polciies too. I feel I have transferable skills and will really emphasise that at interview if I get the opportunity. I was just hoping to find an NHS IG employee on here for some hints and tips x

Hi OP in this role at band 4 it will be admin support not investigation based , so for example one your regular jobs will be asked to check training compliance for staff and chase people who need to get it it done etc.

My biggest and most helpful tip ? Ring the contact on the job advert , introduce yourself and have a few questions about the role prepared- what day to day jobs will I be doing etc (don’t ask about flexibility for hours or anything at this stage )

Just have lots of examples to hand of where you have had to be organised and also meet tight deadlines. A lot of the role at this level is chasing people for responses and ensuring you have met the turnaround times required for them.

Thank you those are really helpful tips which I will definitely take on board x
