When did you realise enough was enough and you had to get out ?

It was when I fantasised about breaking an arm or a leg to get out of going to work . I knew that the Job was seriously impacting my mental health and it was time to get out . No perks or job benefits was worth this .

Thank you for sharing these. My similar feelings and thoughts aren't "silly" (what my manager said) any longer. The question is how to get that another role to focus on healing? @Titasaducksarse so sorry to hear this, did you get the standard CBT from NHS or what would you say has helped most towards recovery?

And for "packed up everything I wanted copies of" - I need to do this. @IPokeBadgers any advice? How did you decide what to take? Did you delete all from your personal drive or left it for the company IT department to do?

@timoteigirl when I leave somewhere, I go through emails and things I have done to take copies of (1) good feedback/positive comments from clients and (2) any diagrams or something that I have made that I would potentially find useful. There is very very little of the latter when it comes down to it, and I don’t take anything I didn’t make myself. I just can’t be bothered to have to spend my time to recreate it all.

Then I file anything that is ‘work’ that will be needed by a successor.

I then delete everything else, then for emails I purge them as well.

from your desk/locker - take what you actually own, but there probably isnt much there.

I lay on the bathroom floor rather than get ready for work.

today cemented that I need a new job - heart racing and generally high levels of anxiety. Been there 6 months next week. Already started applying, but spent my 25 mins of lunch applying to more jobs. At some point I will get an interview.

When I started praying a truck would smash into me on the way to work. Not to kill me, just to injure me badly enough that I wouldn't have to go to work that day.

Hoping that I’d crash my car into a tree on the way into work. Currently signed off sick and making plans to leave. I’m earn a decent salary and I’m a single mum so it’s nerve wracking knowing I’ll be taking a huge pay cut but I’m sure my kids would rather grow up with their mum.

I used to work in HE. Senior reduced team headcount and increased my workload 300% for no extra pay. It was proving impossible to stay on top of critical tasks, there simply were not enough hours in the day, and I raised this with them again and again. One day I realised that a particularly twattish manager didn't give a shit and would have absolutely no problem throwing me under the bus if something failed, which it was bound to do sooner or later. I had no intention of being a scapegoat and wrecking my career just because they refused to provide adequate resource. So I walked. Best thing I ever did. Apparently staff turnover has been ridiculous since then....

When I would genuinely be scared to be ill. I was rushed into hospital by ambulance one time, then when I was discharged - I cried to my partner believing that I would face a disciplinary for that absence.

In short, I did, in fact face a disciplinary following that absence. My former boss sacked me as a result.

I feel like this now. Desperately looking for a way out of teaching-feeling like this is horrendous.

Miley23 · 04/04/2025 15:35

Realistically what can you do if you can't manage without the money. I have felt so shit, anxious etc this week all work related but at my age I would be lucky to get anything else and I need to work for another few years.

Brightlights23 · 04/04/2025 19:39

Driving back from visiting another site today (2.5 hours journey home) talking to myself as I drive trying to call my anxiety down.

really just want any job. Can’t afford to leave without one.

have applied for loads but so far nothing. I know when I was applying last time that it could take weeks before people got back. Loads of applications on a recommended website and so far nothing. I may call an agency on their next week to discuss.

only been there 6 months on monday but knew within 3 weeks it wasn’t the right place for me, but thought it may get better. Should of listened to myself
