Job offer worries

I went for a job interview this morning and then got a call shortly after offering me the job.

The job is at my son's primary school as an admin assistant, everything about it is perfect except it would be less money. My current job is also in a school but is very well paid but it is extremely stressful. I am part time as i have 2 children on my own and my current role should really be a full time role due to the amount of work.

The offered job is only 10 mins away which means I could walk to and from with my son everyday rather than spending nearly £30 petrol a week.
If i have done my calculations correctly the lower wage would mean more UC so really I would be down about £70 a month not factoring in the petrol saving.

Would you do it? It would be managable, I would just have to budget a little more.

Honestly it depends how much you need that £70. If not having that £70 would mean struggling to get the last food shop of the month or worrying about putting the heating on then I wouldn’t take the job, but if that £70 just meant 1 less takeaway/cinema trip a month then I would take it.

Could you negotiate on salary? They may be willing to nudge up a bit?

I have spoken to them and due to budgeting constraints they are unable to offer me any more currently. She did say they have regular pay reviews so this could change.

You’d be down £70 a month, NOT factoring in £30 a week petrol savings? So you’ll be up about £50 a month?
