Was this wrong?

I worked in a national store until last June when I saw a job in head office (part wfh part store) which meant I could now full time and earn a lot more plus I could be at home with my children.
A couple of my former colleagues have since asked me to let them know of any jobs come up in my department. One of these is having a change of circumstances which means they will have to commute for an hour to and from work in the near future.
A role came up in my dept, similar to mine but full time at home, so I let my former colleague know. I have since found out that the managers of my old store have complained to my managers that I was "poaching" their staff.
Was this the wrong thing to do? The member of staff has decided not to go for the job anyway, from my pov all I did was let them know about a role that would help them out massively with their change of circumstance and they aren't going to pursue it anyway.

Totally normal. Let them moan.

You were not wrong. If they can't keep their staff, they should offer better conditions eh?

jimmybiscuit · 12/03/2025 19:51

Thank you both! I honestly thought was going mad and had unknowingly made some massive faux pas

If you’re not the hiring manager then it isn’t poaching in my opinion.

Also, if they could have found these jobs anyway - assuming advertised internally- then you’re drawing attention, not poaching.

Don’t even worry about it.

This is reassuring, I have to go into the my ild store at the weekend and I was starting to worry something would be said. You have all given me some answers if it is mentioned

Updated old manager has discussed this with a former colleague I am close with and said they weren’t complaining, it’s just frustrating they train people up and others try and “poach” them… heaven forbid anyone should realise there’s a higher paid, more suitable job they could apply for 🙃
