What would you do?

I have a job which is very well paid but I find it so stressful. I was taken on part time as I am a single parent of 2 so need to work around them. It quickly became apparent that my job is definitely more suited to a full time person which I cannot do due to my children and the extra costs i would have for school clubs etc.. a job has become available at my sons Primary school and it is a similar role with less responsibility. The issue is it is less money BUT i am on UC so after doing some calculations I should only be about £50 worse off a month but again factoring in the travel i have to do at the minute I would be using a lot less petrol so actually not that worse off.

I have done the pros and cons and the only con really is the money and the fact it is a step down but I just feel i cannot do my job efficiently now being part time, it is a struggle juggling everything and I have no help in the week. This new one I would be able to walk to and from work with my son and less stress.. would you go for it even though it is a step down career wise and less money?

I would go for the job at the school and less stress!
More time with your kids, being able to walk to work and school and probably having more job satisfaction as you won't be constantly chasing your tail.

I think I would also go for the new job, if your current employer can't or won't reduce your workload to an appropriate level.

I think it depends on whether your current role is a career you want to continue in at a later date.

Is there anything your employer could do to make it better where you are?

The only solution has been for me to go full time, he regularly drops into conversation how much easier it would be if i was which i see as unfair as i applied for part time. I am on my own with the kids 6 days out of 7. It would cost a fortune in breakfast and after school clubs and then it would be a mad rush. It takes 30mins for me to get home so after picking them up it would be 5:45 before we even got home then its making dinner/homework etc.. This new role is a 4pm finish and lo would get free after school club as i would be staff. We would be home for 4:30 after a pleasant walk if nice weather.

A career is important to me but not as important as my time with them.

problem then would be what happens if the new role does not last ? ill agree with your points but sometimes its better the job you have an know rather than the maybe one ?

Being home at 4.30 and having free after school club it would be a no brainier if I was you.
