Short term role

Would you take a job for 2 months? Looking for work and it’s dire at the moment, job has come up but it’s only 2 months maybe 3 to cover sickness…I need a job but something much longer.
Would you take such a short term role?

Yep, and keep looking for something longer term. If you get something, they'll almost certainly let you go with very little notice (as you'll still be getting up to speed).

MadridMadridMadrid · 06/03/2025 21:58

Sounds like a good idea. Might turn into a longer term role if the person you're covering for ends up being off sick for longer.

marshmallowmix · 07/03/2025 11:50

yeah I can keep looking and they may be off longer …just thought 2 months isn’t long enough but better than nothing

I would. I have been made redundant and I have applied to a couple; even these small roles might extend into longer term and give you connections! I’d rather look like I’m employed than not. I am still technically working for my current employer to the end of the month but have been applying like crazy! Got 2 potential roles in the bag (I hope - fingers crossed as the market sucks)

EBearhug · 07/03/2025 18:07

2 months pay is better than 0 months pay.

marshmallowmix · 07/03/2025 18:08

Thanks yes it’s better than zero and I’m getting desperate as market has been dire

Yes of course. Good luck

Ladymuck2022 · 07/03/2025 18:13

Yes took 2 months role to cover sickness for a charity. Ended up doing closer to 6 months and it did open the next door good fwiw.

Silvertulips · 07/03/2025 18:15

I took a 6 week placement and stayed 2 years - then moved to a more permanent role. I can work out:

marshmallowmix · 07/03/2025 19:01

Yeah you never know it could go on longer if the person doesn’t come back etc…all I know is it is sick cover …applied for lots of jobs my confidence is low …it’s really hard being older and looking for work. Most jobs don’t even reply or get back re applications.

As it's so short term not many people will apply so the odds are more in your favour, plus it always looks better applying for a job from a job.
I would also place good money on it lasting more than 2 months.

HermioneWeasley · 07/03/2025 19:05

Definitely get in, you never know what else it might lead to

Sunisshine · 07/03/2025 19:20

I took a maternity cover a few years ago as I couldn’t find anything else part time. The lady didn’t return and I ended staying nearly 5 years.

PomPomChatton · 08/03/2025 14:00

I took a 6 month job, and I'm still there 5 years later. I treated the 6 months as one long job interview, and was determined to show how valuable I was to the company. It won't always work out like that but it has to be worth a try.
