New job - feeling of overwhelm

Bimblebombzle · 05/03/2025 18:22

Is it common to feel overwhelmed a week or so into a new role? What are the things I can do to help myself? I love the role, people etc. but there has been so many meetings etc.

I'm having major imposter syndrome and catastrophising thinking.

Any tips or advice?

Totally normal, well done on securing this new job! The first few weeks will be loads of meetings, settling in, building knowledge and then as the weeks pass you’ll feel more comfortable and confident. You’ve got this! Make sure to unwind in the evenings and relax before the next day and enjoy the weekends! Self care in the evenings - eg nice toiletries, nice smelling stuff etc!

That's a normal feeling. All the learning in the first few weeks of a job gives me constant headaches too... Take lots of notes when doing any training, to help when you start putting it into practice. Notes always help 😊
Have faith in yourself. You will soon settle in... 💕

Completely normal, don't beat yourself up. Now is the time for you to ask lots of questions and for any support. Try to ask different people too, as sometimes just a different way of having something explained makes more sense and allows the penny to drop.

As per pp look after yourself at this time. Good luck x

Also drink water during the day and keep yourself hydrated, often lots of meetings can cause headaches so lots of water is key.

Well done on your new job, OP! It is completely normal to feel like this. I love my job and am part of a great team with a super manager who thanks us all and is genuinely appreciative of what individuals contribute. But I still get imposter syndrome. You got the job because you're the best candidate. You're still the best candidate. Finding your feet takes time. But you're there because they selected you for your individual ability, experience and skills. When it feels overwhelming, just keep ploughing on. Sometimes, great work happens when you feel under the cosh. You'll be fine. And - again - congratulations on standing out and getting the job you deserve.
