Scared I will be offered job I applied for (!) stuck in a comfortable rut and young DC

Daft isn't it. I currently work part time 3 days per week, as I have very young DC. Ended up a manager of a team of 4 through a restructure. Pay is fair (not rich by any means) and I'm essentially just cruising along. By that I mean I do very little thinking. All the technical elements I used to do are long gone and I'm basically doing PDRs 121s and signing off leave (minus the odd bit of recruitment/training) My manager is so hands off they're basically absent and does not push me to do anything. So I'm bored. New job advertised for same company but this one is not management, it's the actual "doing" of the job, but for a different team. Surprised to get an interview as I'm at the top of the salary band, but I am qualified for the role. It will be 2 more years before my DC go to school and I can up my hours so it may be 3 very busy days... extremely different to what I do now (which means I currently manage to squeeze in house chores from time to time)

Should I continue on the safe Job or risk starting a new one for what might be only a little bit more money? I'm scared to go and regret it

Apply, you can always decline if you get offered it. I moved jobs because I missed the technical side. I don’t regret it, but my kids were older.

I moved from a previous job as I was bored to pieces; nothing much happened and the days dragged on. I moved from a very small company part time role to a full on large corporate client facing full time role.

It was stressful but It was the right decision and the first years flew by. My children were older when I changed jobs though and the soul destroying job did give me the time and flexibility I needed at the time.

As it is the same company and 3 days I would probably go for the interview and find more info; as same salary. Just check team culture, responsibilities, etc before you make the decision.

It is soul destroying sitting waiting for something to happen with no challenge. Sometimes is better to be busy; as long as not crazy busy.

For me it would depend how often those sorts of jobs come up. I applied for (and took) a "right job wrong time" because I knew that such a good opportunity was unlikely to come up again for a good while. But also, I'll be honest, I was bored at home in a way I hadn't been when my first baby was little - there's nothing that would have persuaded me back in full time when he was little (major case of mpfb 🤣)

The role I have applied for is brand new in this business area, but one I know very well, so it's an opportunity to "make it my own". I think I've appealed to the team as I have quite unique experience and happen to work in the same company (win win for training). I have 3 kids 7 and under 😳 and am currently WFH pretty much full time

I think your right I need to go and ask more questions. And regarding salary as I will be hitting the top of the salary band so it could get quite stale.

Maybe it is right job wrong time.

I could have written this post myself OP! However I’m on the other side of it now after leaving my steady away WFH 3 days a week job! (I have a young DS) I was bored so made the decision to leave! Im finding my new job quite stressful and have way more work to do than I ever did in my old job for not much more money! Often wonder if Ive made the right decision…

Just as an update, the interview went really well. The manager seemed nice and flexible for working too. Job will involve being responsible for all planning for a designated geographical area (1 area per person in the team) with no direct reports. also sounds like they're heavily recruiting right now. I'm fairly confident I'm going to be offered the job, this week, so it's waiting game to see what's offered. The HM said they weren't alarmed by my current salary. I still don't know what to think....it sounds like a good opportunity but I'm still terrified I will look back in 2/3 months time and wonder why I'd given up a cruising job, especially with the kids being so young. But if I turn it down I could also regret it right.

That sounds really positive. How would you feel if you got a rejection?
