Hi, I have to return to work after an 18 year gap (looking after my special needs kids). I used to be a computer programmer using C++, Java, VB and many others etc and worked managing teams in an investment bank building internet style web based applications.
I'd like to take a couple of courses to get up to speed in Python and R. Can anyone recommend online courses that would then be recognised on my CV?
Thank you

I can't help, sorry. But I'm in a similar situation, although only 15 years. Family have moved close by and have offered to help if need be....only I don't know yet if that's an offer because they never thought they'd be called on or if they will step up!

How do you judge job descriptions with no recent experience? I've seen a job that on paper looks ok but I've no concept of how it would translate to reality. I'm finding it hard to know what to apply for, especially as I've essentially no experience (DC1 straight out of uni).

As to the courses, do you have a local university which offers classes? Or an accredited university offering online modules?

I haven’t done this one myself but I did retrain to move into tech and people often recommended this Harvard course which is free:

I also worked through Python for Everybody which I thought was good.

CS50's Introduction to Programming with Python | Harvard University

An introduction to programming using Python, a popular language for general-purpose programming, data science, web programming, and more.
